Value4Farm Consortium Meets in Iceland to Prepare for the Project’s Final Phase

The VALUE4FARM consortium gathered in Selfoss, Iceland, last week for a productive Consortium Meeting as the project enters its final months ahead of its conclusion in February 2027.

With only five months remaining, partners came together to review progress across all work packages, discuss recent developments from the project’s demonstration activities, and coordinate the final steps needed to maximise the project’s impact and ensure a successful completion.

Reviewing Progress Across Europe’s Demonstration Sites

A key focus of the meeting was the exchange of updates from VALUE4FARM’s demonstration sites in Belgium, Denmark and Italy. Partners presented the latest results and experiences gathered throughout the project, highlighting progress in the deployment and assessment of innovative renewable energy solutions for the agricultural sector.

Discussions also explored how these solutions can contribute to improving farm sustainability through increased energy self-sufficiency, greater circularity, and enhanced nutrient recovery practices.

Advancing Tools and Preparing Final Project Activities

Consortium members reviewed the latest developments regarding the VALUE4FARM Decision Support Tool, now available online at Decision support tool – value4farm. The tool has been designed to help farmers evaluate renewable energy solutions tailored to their specific needs and circumstances.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to prepare the project’s upcoming final activities, including the organisation of the VALUE4FARM Final Conference, scheduled for February 2027, where key project results and recommendations will be presented to stakeholders.

Discovering Iceland’s Renewable Energy Leadership

Following the Consortium Meeting, partners had the opportunity to visit the Hellisheiði geothermal power plant, operated by Orka náttúrunnar – Um ON, one of Iceland’s most prominent renewable energy facilities.

During a guided tour, consortium members learned how geothermal resources are harnessed to generate renewable electricity while simultaneously providing hot water for heating and domestic use. The visit offered valuable insights into Iceland’s long-standing commitment to sustainable energy production and demonstrated how local natural resources can support a reliable, low-carbon energy system.

For the consortium, the visit provided an inspiring example of large-scale renewable energy deployment in practice and an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the role of innovative energy solutions in supporting sustainability transitions.

Looking Ahead

As VALUE4FARM moves into its final phase, partners remain committed to generating practical knowledge and solutions that can help European farms strengthen their resilience, improve resource efficiency, and contribute to the transition towards more sustainable energy systems.

Funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe, VALUE4FARM aims to support the transition towards more sustainable and resilient farming systems through innovative renewable energy and circularity solutions.
